    (e.g. David Finkelstein says that "the vacuum supercrystal seems to have a critical temperature of many GeV.")

"I suppose that spacetime itself is a macroscopic coherent
mode of a more general structure, as a superconductor is a
mode of a polyatomic crystal. I tentatively dub this oldest
of the supercondensates "supercrystal", to go with superconductor
and superfluid. It is characterized by perfect defect-mobility
(infinite defect-mobility with Meissner effect) and a transition
temperature of hundreds of GeV's (at least).

    ...while on the other hand we may also expect the emergence of entirely new coherent dynamical states at the gentle ambient temperature of 3 degrees Kelvin. (This is related to the idea of stimulated morphogenesis.)

    In quantum mechanics what is physically real is what can in principle be measured - in other eras of the universe very different kinds of observables obtained.

    How do we assign meaning to spacetime in domains (such as the the early universe) where there are no such well-defined observables?

    There was a time when the universe lacked "object permanence" - Fractalesquely, we all pass that way individually as we develop...

Because the universe is self-defining, a state of infinite degrees of freedom like the famous approach to thermal equilibrium (maximum entropy) in a spatially open universe is actually equivalent to a state of only one possibility, that is a state of minimum entropy like the origin of the big bang.
Order and disorder are one: the engine cycle of the universe.
